Epilog: 2006 will bring many changes to our hobby and business. Topping the list will be the Patriot Act. July 2008: Update on the Coin Market
While many collectors may use the Greysheet as a price guide to determine the value of coins, any seasoned dealer or collector who is active in the market today will tell you can throw any wholesale or retail pricing publication out the window when it comes to pricing better date or high end coins for the grade, especially if they have eye appeal. Two of the reasons for this phenomenon is that pricing publications just can't keep up with an active market sometimes taking up to a year to update prices in a specific coin category, but probably and most importantly, prices in the publications are for average coins in an average condition for that grade.
At Yellow River, we offer the best we can find in any grade offering PQ (Premium Quality) coins and more times than not, paying over what is considered full retail in the publications, but in today's market is actually current wholesale levels. As many of my colleagues try to explain this to their customers by saying it like this, 'we don't sell Greysheet coins'. While a price of a coin may seem high, we actually work on a small profit margin as do many other dealers. The old saying also remains true in this business, you get what you pay for, and our goal is to give you the most you can get for your depreciating dollar.
